A Short History of College.

Pathani Samanta College, Khandapara,Dist-Nayagarh in the state of Odisha is a premier rural based non-government aided degree college imparting education at +2 and +3 degree level. The geographical location, socio-economic and cultural background of the place has played a pivotal role in establishment and growth of a degree college in this under developed part of the state. Khandapara is primarily known as Vidya Nagari (City of Education/Learning) it is widely renowned for its rich heritage, cultural background terrible natural beauty of surrounding hill ranges, ever flowing rivers, royal palace, temples, agricultural fields, fine art, literature etc. The college is located in the realms of Khandapara 25kms from the district headquarter. It is exactly situated at Baigunia 04 kms. from Khandapara towards the east. It is under the jurisdiction of Bhapur Block. Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha is at a distance of 80 kms. from the college. The exact position of this institution in the globe is 20.270250 latitude and 85.19685o longitude. River Kusumi flows eternally in the west nestling on the foot of a beautiful hill just 02 kms. far from the college. In the North river Mahanadi flows through ages on the bank of which Shree Nilamadhab Jew is worshipped on his old shrine. The History of the college goes back to the 20th century. Some of the intelligentsias of the locality thought of spreading the light of higher education in the rural belts of Khandapara by establishing a college at Baigunia, as it is the hub of communication for local people. The college took birth from the noble vision of these enlightened people of this locality. Their dream was materialized with the establishment of this college in 1978 with the sincere efforts as well as the humble contribution of the people. Their dream to see the youngsters of this locality highly educated became fruitful and thus the college was christened as “Pathani Samanta College, Khandapara” after the great soul of the soil, Mahamohopadhyaya Samanta Chandra Shekhar Harichandan Mohapatra popularly known as Pathani Samanta. Thanks to the departed souls who were the initiators of such a noble idea. The college campus is situated in the calm, quiet and picturesque spot in a natural environment with herbal garden, botanical garden, Silver Jubilee garden of medicinal plants and with valuable trees like mango, jack-fruit, coconut, Neem, Teak (More than 5000 in number) Banyan etc. conducive to teaching and learning. The college had its beginning in the year 1978 withold IA course with 128 seats and ICom. with 64 seats under temporary affiliation to Utkal University, Vani Vihar, Bhubaneswar. Initially it started as an Intermediated College in Banamalipur High School, Banamalipur. Morning classes were taken in the high school as the school students attended classes from 10am to 4pm.Then the decision to make an own building was carried out and the local people extended financial help to make a tile roofed building as it was thought to be less expensive and can suit the purpose. The then staff served the college with sprit and dedication without demanding any salary or remuneration for years from the college managing committee. Gradually the college grew and metamorphosed into a degree college in the year 1988-89.

The college is affiliated to Utkal University and is recognized by the State Govt.of odisha as 1stDegree college of Bhapur Block. The college has also got permanent concurrence in the year 2002. The college was recognized under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of U.G.C. Act in the year 2011 . As a result it has received grants from 11th and 12th plan period of the UGC. During the last 37 years of its existence the college authorities have developed the infrastructure of the college to accommodate the growing needs of the students. The logo of Pathani Samanta College, Khandapara is a harmonious blending of four symbols such as a book, a burning light, a star and the sun. In brief, the logo is a micro-representation symbolizing knowledge which ennobles character, enlightens understanding and dispels the darkness of ignorance. Moreover, they represent Pathani Samanta’s world of creation, “The Sidhanta Darpana” and his research on the motion of the sun and the stars only by using two bamboo sticks. At present, the college has 15 acres of land at its disposal and 7.15acres of land in the ROR. The present college building stands in an area of 03acres of land with a campus protecting boundary wall built of cement and laterite stone of 4000 fts. length with 10ft. height. The college is committed to quality education; it can be firmly asserted that the institution has produced a good number of students who are well settled as officers like Scientists, Doctors, Lecturers , IES, Engineers, Teachers, Technicians and Technologists.
